Coltsville Special Resource Study Available for Public Comment

The National Park Service (NPS) has published the Coltsville Special Resource Study, which is available on this website. The study examines whether the Coltsville Historic District should be designated a unit of the national park system. Following NPS criteria, the study examines the national significance of the Coltsville Historic District, its suitability and feasibility for potential designation as a unit of the national park system, and the need for NPS management of the resource versus management by other public or private entities.

The Coltsville Special Resource Study concludes that the resources in the Coltsville Historic District meet the criteria for national significance and suitability but, at present, do not meet the criteria for feasibility and need for NPS management. As stated in the report, it is possible that the feasibility and need for NPS management criteria could potentially be met if the feasibility issues discussed in this report are resolved.

The National Park Service will hold a public meeting to discuss the Coltsville Special Resource Study on Monday, December 14, at 5:30 PM in Gray Hall at the South Congregational Church, 277 Main Street, Hartford, CT. The public will be able to make comments on the Coltsville study at the meeting.

Members of the public can submit written comments on the National Park Service Planning Environment and Public Comment website (PEPC)

The public can obtain a copy or to submit written public comments on the study to Project Manager James O’Connell at the contact information below.

The NPS will receive public comments until December 18, 2009. At the conclusion of the public response period, the report with any appropriate changes resulting from public comments will be forwarded to the Secretary of the Interior, who will transmit the completed study to the United States Congress.
